Matthew B. is a GlobalFit member whose exercise routine was interrupted by hernia surgery and, a month later, a car accident. What happened next was frustrating and difficult, but ultimately inspiring and well worth the effort!
"[While I was recovering] it became increasingly frustrating ... watching the muscle shrink and the fat grow. If I ran into someone who hadn't seen me in a while, I could see the look in their eyes as they looked me over. I could see where their eyes were looking. Nobody mentioned anything, but I could only imagine what they were thinking.
"[Finally], my doctor gave me the okay to return to the gym. [After almost a year] I walked back into the gym. ... I was hoping I wouldn't see anyone that I knew. I didn't want anyone to see how out of shape I had become. I kind of had my head down as I went through the workout area.
"As I sat down at one of the machines to begin my workout, I was glad to have taken the first step. It can be intimidating, when one is out of shape, to even walk into a gym. But I was determined to get back into my healthy lifestyle! I began eating right again and never missed a workout and whenever I was at the gym, I gave it my all.
"After two months, I lost a total of fifteen pounds! Now, I look and feel great, plus I have tons of energy that lasts throughout the day! I'm actually in better shape and lifting more weight than before my surgery.
"No matter how hard things get, they can always get better if you work hard and have the determination. The hardest part is getting started! I encourage everyone to begin living a healthy lifestyle. Whether they have slacked off for a while or have never had a consistent routine, there is absolutely nothing to lose (except fat) but so much to gain by the effort!"
