CIGNA and GlobalFit Offer Added Incentive for Exercise

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bloomfield, CONN. – March 26, 2009 – With the economic crisis raising the specter of “recession pounds,” weight gained as a result of Americans eating cheaply and spending less on fitness, two companies are joining forces to put healthier choices within easier reach.

By special arrangement with GlobalFit, a leading provider of healthy living benefits, people who are covered by a CIGNA plan can now get a discount toward GlobalFit’s already discounted rates at participating fitness centers in the U.S. and Canada.

The initiative, offered through CIGNA’s Healthy Rewards® discount program, is designed to promote increased activity to help fight against the range of chronic ailments promoted by sedentary habits. “Regular physical activity is one cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle,” said Diana Wynne, program director for the CIGNA Healthy Rewards program. “In addition to the many benefits that exercise offers, this latest incentive is just one more motivator to encourage people to take that first step.”

For GlobalFit President and CEO, Frank Napolitano, this effort comes at a most opportune moment. “We consider money spent on fitness and wellness programs to be a critical investment into the future of every individual,” he remarked. “In a tight economy, that’s a tough message to communicate. Regular exercise offers measurable dividends, and with this credit further lowering the entrance barrier through GlobalFit, those covered by a CIGNA plan can more easily make this investment.”

GlobalFit has offered fitness center membership discounts through CIGNA since 2002. Advantages include the lowest rates, flexible membership options, and the ability to transfer within GlobalFit’s network of thousands of fitness centers. Participating providers include New York Sports Clubs (as well as the chain’s facilities in Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C.), select Curves and Gold’s Gym locations, as well as thousands of other national, regional and local facilities.

Healthy Rewards is provided as an advantage of plan participation and is not part of a covered benefit or an insurance program. CIGNA customers do not need referrals, nor do they file claims to obtain discounts; they schedule appointments directly with service providers and also pay them directly for the entire discounted charge. Some Healthy Rewards programs are not available in all states.
