The Gary Papa Run was held this Sunday for Father’s Day! Many may not know that every year races are held on Mother’s day and Father’s day centering around Breast and Prostate Cancer. These races are becoming more and more popular as the contribution to these aren’t technically about the race… but the rewarding factor of YOU being able to help and support someones’ loved one!
Thanks to everyone who participated this Sunday… and you can find out more about the race below….
Gary Papa Run
Following the formation of PHI the division inaugurated the Father’s Day 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Walk called “Run 4 Your Life”. Participation in the traditional race has grown from just over 300 runners in the inaugural year to over 4,000 in 2011.
This consistent growth is largely attributable to the in-depth involvement and support of Gary Papa 6ABC Sportscaster, who joined the board of the Foundation in 2005 and quickly devoted his exceptional talent and energy to help Prostate Health International generate prostate cancer awareness and research. Gary soon became our spokesman and tirelessly worked to establish and promote the Father’s Day Run, serving as co-chairman of the run during subsequent years.
Although Gary lost his six-year battle with prostate cancer in June of 2009 we continue to cherish and honor his memory by renaming the race after him so that his dedication to our cause will never be forgotten.
We pledge to continue Gary’s mission of conquering this disease by promoting prostate cancer awareness and research and by offering free screening and educational programs to men in the Delaware Valley.
