GLOBALFIT HEATS UP THE INC. 5000
America's 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies Revealed
PHILADELPHIA, PA – PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire – August 22, 2008) – A healthy body temperature is said to be 98.6 degrees. So it's fitting that a leading healthy living benefits firm would score recognition with four-year growth of 98.6 percent.
Inc. today placed GlobalFit on its annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. The list is the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America's independent-minded entrepreneurs. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.
"Our second annual Inc. 5000 continues the most ambitious project in business journalism," said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. "The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth."
As GlobalFit President and CEO Frank Napolitano sees it, his company straddles both categories. "GlobalFit is among the older companies on the list," said Napolitano, "but we have stayed focused on maintaining the vitality and innovation of a start-up. We're introducing new products that incorporate new technologies and new strategies to motivate people toward healthier behaviors, and we're continuing to expand our geographic reach." Founded in 1992, GlobalFit is older than almost 73% of the other ranking companies.
GlobalFit is among another minority of companies on this year's list: those that also made 2007's inaugural Inc. 5000. For 2008, GlobalFit ranked 3,377 overall and 7 for Pennsylvania's Health sector, the company's assigned industry category.
Curiously, Inc. categorized GlobalFit in the Business Services category for 2007. This inconsistency comes as no surprise to Napolitano. "GlobalFit occupies a unique niche," he stated. "We service businesses by providing a vital, money-saving voluntary benefit program. But GlobalFit also operates in the Health and Wellness space, putting tools for healthy living within reach for millions of working and insured Americans."
The 5,000 companies that made the list reported aggregate revenue of $185 billion and median three-year growth of 147 percent. Most important, the 2008 Inc. 5000 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 826,033 jobs since those companies were founded. Methodology
The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, for profit, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007.
