Small Changes, Big Results
David Patchell–Evans

How can encouraging employees to walk 10,000 steps each day help save your company money? How can changing break room vending machines from fatty snacks to healthier foods increase employee retention? Patch will address how small changes in your corporate culture can result in big benefits for your organization. Using concrete examples from his own life experiences and as CEO of GoodLife Fitness, he'll show how the little things add up to positively impact the overall success of your organization. You will learn how small changes in your company culture can contribute to a healthier lifestyle among employees and lower healthcare costs for everyone.

The Impact of Employee Wellness Programs on Healthcare Costs
Brian T. Day, EdD

Day presents an influential study that evaluated the changes in healthcare costs resulting from worksite wellness programs. The study, published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, was conducted by Highmark, Inc., a health insurance provider that chose to lead by example. Highmark analyzed data taken from its own employees who participated in its comprehensive employee wellness program. The study showed that Highmark saved $1.3 million during the four-year time span of 2002 to 2005 through its wellness programs. You will learn more about Highmark's success and how their experience can inform your own successful wellness program.

Race to the Healthiest Nation: How Our Families, Communities and Workplaces Help Make Us Fit
L. Casey Chosewood, M.D.

Healthcare may occur in hospitals and doctors' offices. But it is health that occurs everywhere else. Our families, our homes, our schools and communities all influence the choices we make that promote or prohibit our health and well-being. This is equally true of the workplace. Our jobs and work locations can make (or break) the choices we make related to health, wellness, and prevention. Worksites that embrace health protection, make healthy choices easier choices, and nudge workers to engage in positive interventions are poised for more productive employees and stronger bottom lines. Together we'll explore how your workplace can set the bar for health and wellness and lead the way in your communities and states. How can we win the race to become the healthiest nation? Your training begins now!

2:00 PM:

Healthiest Nation Alliance Pledge

Following Dr. Chosewood's presentation, which will include an introduction to the Healthiest Nation Alliance, Summit attendees will have an opportunity to join the Alliance and pledge to help improve the health of Americans through worksite health promotion.
